    Luke Bryan – Mind of a Country Boy (Capitol)

    Luke Bryan, probably more by virtue of the timbre of his voice than by the selection of his songs, has a wonderfully distinct style that has endeared itself to fans galore. It is a somewhat folksy yet sly sound, like that of a teenage boy getting away with something that he should have known not to try doing.

    Typically, there are drinking songs, but one does stand out: “Country Song Came On”, dry and witty, about a man trying not to imbibe but then that song came on the jukebox and DAMN! that took care of that.

    All fourteen tracks are strong and along this line. Consistency is what Luke is all about. You know what you want, and the man delivers.

    The CD ends with a soft religious number with, as expected, a witty turn of words: “Jesus ‘Bout my Kids”. It ends the disc with a gentle Everyman (and woman) observation and parenthood.

    Recommended for all fans of country music.
