Album Notes
Released On August 21, 2015 by CapitolDouble Fantasy is John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s fifth studio album—and tragically, Lennon's last before his death. Dropped in November 1980 on Geffen Records, it marked Lennon’s big comeback after a five-year dad break to raise Sean. Recorded at the Hit Factory in NYC between August and October 1980, the album alternates tracks from Lennon and Ono, like a musical ping-pong match.
When it first hit shelves, critics weren’t exactly rolling out the red carpet—many called out its romanticized take on their marriage. It stalled on the charts, but three weeks later, Lennon’s tragic murder turned it into a global sensation. By 1981, it snagged the Grammy for Album of the Year. Over time, it’s been reassessed, with Lennon’s tracks now seen as some of his best work.
